A visit to the Kenya National Museum August 2010
The children in guardianship had a great day out at the Kenya National Museum. The day started at 7am with Children gathering on the outskirts. Then everyone queued to get on the two buses hired from a local firm for the trip to the Museum. There was lots of singing, laughter and noise on the way. Once we arrived and completed the formalities a guide was allocated to provide information for the children and answer questions.
The picture below shows our group, both children and helpers, on the steps just outside the Museum.
In the main gallery we were introduced to African culture and the whole variety of life from birds and monkeys to elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, gazelles and even a hippopotamus. The picture on the right suggests someone may be a budding dentist as he practises removing a tooth from a hippopotamus. Some of the older children went to see the snakes whilst the younger ones were entertained with puppets. Everyone was able to go in the garden and see the native flowers and trees of Kenya. Even the model of the highway plan for Nairobi was fascinating for some of the children.
After lunch the children were involved in various games with some singing and dancing so we were soon able to see those with hidden talents. Eventually in the evening we all returned home with most of the children sleeping on the buses on the way back.
