News Reports from KiberaThe following reports are currently available for selection.
January 2010 report from Mary KinotiFeeding :- The KIN feeding centre has changed. The school decided to take over the hall/church and is unwilling to let the children to continue feeding there. However, a venue has been found adjacent to the former feeding centre. The caregivers moved in quickly to negotiate for a venue and in consultation with the office, a new place was secured. It is amazing the ownership of programme demonstrated by the members of the community because it is as a result that the Saturday feeding programme continued uninterrupted. The new found place is also a church. However, the structure is unfinished and therefore a search for a better place within that place is being explored. Education :- All the children have reported back to school for the first term except a couple of the girls who did not perform well and who are reluctant to adhere to their schools recommendations to repeat a year. Professional assessment and counseling service has been offered to them. However they are still unwilling to repeat as recommended by the school. They have not gone back to school. We have kept a close monitoring and contact with them. The Education program is growing. The ten new children have already reported at Betty and are doing well. KCPE Candidates :- The children who are to join secondary school this year have underwent child assessment. They are looking forward to joining form one school. In particular, two young boys demonstrated a high enthusiasm to join form one. However, there will be a session with children again on 4th Feb.2010 as follow up to build up as a strong value for education right from the start. We are still looking for good schools for them. They are expected to report during this month of February. Kin MEDS training :- We plan to have a two day workshop for the 150 beneficiaries of KIN meds (business support loans) scheduled for 19th and 20th Feb 2010. The objective is to build up their entrepreneurial skills which will help them in scaling up and diversifying their small businesses. This will compliment the weekly trainings that happen in Group meetings. Similarly, it will bring members from different groups together. They will be facilitated to share their ideas on the best ways of running business. Those who have recorded a significant success in managing and expanding their enterprise will have a forum to share with others how they have achieved that. A resource person will be engaged to compliments the Riziki Kenya Staff in helping the beneficiaries improve on their businesses. God Bless Mary.
