Saturday 8th May 2010 :- Quiz Night. What a great evening and it raised £2086 after all costs for KIN. At current costs that is nearly enough for 1 Kibera child to have 4 years at secondary school. Thanks to everyone of the one hundred people who attended and contributed to our funds on behalf of children in Kibera and a special thanks to all those who did the "donkey" work Jo and Andrew, Lynn, Jane, Janine, Louise, Bernie, Amanda, Chris and Phil.

March 2010 :- The visit by Phil and Estelle to Kibera was, as ever, extreemly interesting. Some current information from the trip may be found in the "News" for March 2010 which you can find on the menu bar.

Sunday 28th March 2010 :- The race is run and Natalie, Joel, Phil and Steve (an addition to the Team) all finished with Steve clocking a fast time of 1hr 26m. At the last minute the beagle decided not to run (his place having been taken by Steve) so instead he hung out with some other friends near the bacon butty stand. Thanks for all the support wehave exceed our expectations on behalf of KIN however late donations will be gratefully recieved at Just Giving.

Tuesday 12th January 2010 :-Cheadle Hulme School Year 7’s completed their fun run in fancy dress and raised a grand total of £4000 in support of KIN. Many thanks to everyone who took part in this magnificent event.

Saturday 28th November 2009 :-Tamatha Calow & Richard Ruffell completed the British Military Fitness Campaign and successfully raised over £6000 for KIN. It sounds a pretty awesome adventure and we are delighted with their success and the additional funds raised on behalf of KIN. Tamatha & Richard tell us it was "The best, the hardest and one of the most memorable trips of our lives. Borneo was an amazing place with amazing people."

The sleeping arrangements for the trip!

We arrived at Kota Kinabalu having barely taken a breath before we were thrown in the pool for the swim test, the next day it was basic jungle training and practice in survival skills before the race began with a 4km run after which we took a helicopter into the jungle to set up camp and attempt to get our fires started in time for dinner! A 2 hour trek out the following day and then a 6km bike / run race followed by a white water rafting race down the Kiulu river saw us complete our busiest if not our hardest day. The next day we were bused to the starting point for the 9km bike run race and then the 2 man kayak relay. A brief breather before we took part in our shopping task using basic Malay to pick up such useful things as a wahid!

The awesome team 10 in the jungle

The following day was the ascent up Mount Kinabalu which at 4100m is possible the most painful climb we have ever completed. Stopping at Laban Rata, three quarters of the way up for a drink and a saline drip in my case, we had a quick sleep before we woke at 2am for the final ascent of which the last 20m was a glorious boulder field, exactly what we wanted! Thankfully the sunrise was worth it and as Jungle Bob said, this was definitely type 2 fun, horrible at the time but looking back, one of the most amazing things we have ever completed.

On the way down WOO HOO!

Friday 9th October 2009 :- The KIN Black & White Ball was a huge success. The evening of dance , music and good food also included a lively auction. Overall some £24,000 was raised on behalf of KIN which will be a tremendous help in promoting education for deprived children. It would appear from the revellers we captured on this photograph that a very good time was had by all.

August 2009 :- Alex Brereton & Nick Collins started their Lands End to John O'Groats cycle run but unfortunately Nick had a knee injury problem after some 400 miles. They will be finishing their trip next year. In the meanwhile and by way of encouragement visit their donation page in favour of KIN at Alex and Nick

25th June 2009 Three Peaks :- Joel, Steve and Ben completed the climbs of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden. Utterly exhausted, decidedly fed up of eating sandwiches and somewhat weak at the knees they finished in under 24 hours. As a result of their punishing event they (and Alice and Gemma who did the driving) raised £2300 for KIN. That's equivalent to 4 months of the feeding programme or one secondary school education for 4 years. Many thanks for all your efforts.

The three musketeers on the right are better known as Joel, Ben and Steve who seem to be up before the crack of dawn.

25th June 2009 Visit by Sutton Garden Society to Pownall Hall Farm :- In addition to the pleasures of the gardens of Pownall Hall Farm the visitors enjoyed cookies baked by Alice! A total of £87.60 was raised in support of KIN.
